Located in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago, New Lenox was incorporated in 1946, although the township dates back to 1852 after Will County was formed when the Rock Island Railroad connected from Chicago to Rock Island, IL. New Lenox now has a population of over 25,000 people. In 2005, New Lenox opened their New Lenox Commons in the center of town. The Commons is a community space for events, concerts, movie nights, and public use. Some additional interesting facts about New Lenox and things you may not have known about until now:

1. New Lenox is home to Schmuhl School, a one room school house built in 1933 and was utilized as a school until the mid 1990s. The school was ahead of its time in 1933 as it had a furnace in the basement, electricity, water, and indoor plumbing. The former school was acquired by the New Lenox Area Historical Society and moved in April 2000. It is now considered a designated landmark of Will County. Other historical New Lenox landmarks include, The Scout Cabin at the United Methodist Church, Francis Field, Haven School, and The Salisbury House.

2. There are a few notable people from New Lenox such as two-time Super Bowl Champion Rob Ninkovich (NFL), Tony Cingrani (MLB), B.J. Bello (NFL/UFL), and Renée Kosol (former State Representative).
